When I booked my flight to Paris and starting making a list of all of the things I wanted to see and do, I quickly realized that the majority of the list was becoming names of cafes. Not surprising, since Paris is the perfect place to sit outside with a coffee and croissant, and watch the city go by.

Cafe de Flore
Location: 6th Arrondissement | Saint-Germain des Prés
This iconic cafe has been a staple for Parisians in the 6th arrondissement since 1887. Cafe de Flore is famous for its clientele throughout the years, which included writers, philosophers, and artists like Pablo Picasso. Its location, on the corner of bustling Boulevard Saint-Germain and Rue Saint-Benoît, makes it a great place to watch Paris go by.
Shakespeare & Company
Location: 6th Arrondissement | Saint-Germain des Prés
Half book shop, half cafe. A great spot for a coffee break. This cafe was featured in the movies Julie & Julia, and in Midnight in Paris. This is the 2nd shop of the same name. The original, which is now closed, was frequented by writers like Ernest Hemingway, and James Joyce.
Les Deux Magots
Location: 6th Arrondissement | Saint-Germain des Prés
This cafe opened in 1885. Another classic, yet charming spot, on the opposite corner from Cafe de Flore.
Laduree
Location: Multiple locations across the city
Home of the famous colorful French macaroons. The macaroons are delicious and you absolutely should get a box of them, but they also serve a lovely breakfast if you are seated at a table.
Cafe des Deux Moulins
Location: 18th Arrondissement | Montmartre
You’ll recognize this cafe if you’ve seen the film Amélie. I grabbed a table outside to watch the people of Montmartre walk by. You must go inside, at least once though - the cafe is decked out in Amélie decor.
Le Moulin de la Galette
Location: 18th Arrondissement | Montmartre
While there used to be several windmills in the area of Montmartre, the windmill on the top of the restaurant Le Moulin de la Galette is one of the last remaining in the area. The restaurant, which first opened in 1812, is also famous for being featured in a Renoir painting. Both Van Gogh and Picasso also painted the restaurant, securing it as an iconic location.
Cafe de l’Homme
Location: 16th Arrondissement | Passy
Cafe de l’Homme has the best view of the Eiffel Tower, in my opinion. It’s directly across from the Eiffel Tower, on the Right Bank, above Trocadero. While the outside has a stunning view (book a table ahead of time), the inside is also beautifully decorated with Art Deco decor like marble tables, green velvet banquettes, and large mirrors.
La Maison Rose
Location: 18th Arrondissement | Montmartre
This is possibly the cutest, most Instagramable building in Montmartre. You’ve probably seen this pink cafe all over Instagram and Pinterest.
Le Consulat
Location: 18th Arrondissement | Montmartre
I love that this cafe sits in the middle of two cobblestone streets in Montmartre, Rue Norvins and Rue Saint-Rustique. The little cafe tables out front look like the perfect respite from the crowds.
Angelina Cafe
Location: 1st Arrondissement | Louvre-Tuileries
Coco Chanel used to come here so you know it’s a classic. The hot chocolate at Angelina Cafe is to die for. Make a reservation, or go right when they open - this place gets packed very quickly. They also have a cute little take-away counter if you don’t want to wait for a table.
Cafe Kitsune
Location: 1st Arrondissement | Louvre-Tuileries
Grab a coffee or a matcha and find a bench to sit and enjoy. Their Palais Royal location also recently opened a cute outdoor terrace.
Au Vieux Paris d'Arcole
Location: 4th Arrondissement | Île de la Cité
The cutest little restaurant, and it’s in one of the oldest buildings in Paris. The building was constructed around the same time Notre Dame cathedral was completed. In the spring and summer the storefront is covered in beautiful wisteria.
