Neutral Style for Early Fall
It’s hard to believe September is right around the corner. Fall weather is showing signs here in New England though, so I’m already thinking about Fall.
I love Fall style and being able to wear cute boots, jackets, and cozy sweaters. I always tend to go toward neutrals for Fall like beige, camel, grey, khaki green, and black.
Every season I find myself gravitating towards the same classic styles in ankle booties, white sneakers, and neutral sweaters. This year I’m also loving cropped cardigans and shirt jackets/shackets which are perfect for transitioning to the cooler Fall weather.
Here are some of the neutral style pieces I’m grabbing for my Fall wardrobe!

neutral Style picks for early fall
Boots and Flats
The essential shoes you need for Fall: a classic white sneaker like the Veja Esplar sneaker, ankle booties in black and a neutral beige, easy slide-on mules like these from Sam Edelman and Dolce Vita, suede over the knee boots for pairing with leggings, skirts, or dresses, and a comfy pair of combat or moto boots like the Laurie Platform Combat Boot.
Base Layers and Bodysuits
Bodysuits are a staple of mine in Fall for layering under cardigans or light jackets. The Commando Ballet Body Turtleneck is one of my all time favorites for Fall and winter. Abercrombie also has super soft and comfortable bodysuit styles that I’ve linked below. I love their crewneck long-sleeve bodysuit in white. A pair or faux leather leggings are also a must for cooler weather - I love layering them with a cozy sweater or flannel. The Commando Perfect Control Leggings and the Spanx faux leather leggings are both great options.
Sweaters and Cardigans
My go-to sweater style is a classic white, beige, or black sweater, usually with an oversized fit. I’ll even order a size or two up for a looser, cozier fit. This year I’m also into the cardigan trend. I grabbed this cropped, ribbed one from Urban Outfitters, in both black and white. For a cozy outfit that’s a little dressier for work or dinner, I love an oversized turtleneck dress like this one from Everlane - pair it with sneakers or boots depending on your look!
Outerwear and Scarves
Once Fall hits, to a certain extent your jacket becomes your outfit so I always pick classic pieces that I can wear over and over again, like a black leather jacket, Levis denim jacket, and a khaki green jacket. I am also in love with this beige wool workwear shirt from And Other Stories. How adorable is this white fleece shacket from Asos? I also picked up this simple grey zip up hoodie earlier this summer and will be wearing it into the Fall. I purchased a men’s large for a super cozy, oversized fit. It’s under $20 and is perfect for lounging at home or throwing on for weekend errands.
