Self-care doesn’t always require extra time or money. Self-care means choosing what is best for your future self. It starts with building a routine of habits that will benefit your mental, emotional, and physical health. 

Nourishing my body through food, exercise, and sleep is self-care I never compromise on. The best part is that these things don’t come with a high price tag. 

To help kickstart your everyday self-care routine, here are 25 (mostly free) ways to practice self-care at home.

25 (Mostly Free) Ways to Practice Self-Care at Home

  1. Start with a healthy breakfast

  2. Move your body for 20 minutes

  3. Make your bed

  4. Stay hydrated and refill your water bottle often

  5. Call a friend

  6. Plant something

  7. Eat a green vegetable at every meal (broccoli, spinach, kale, Brussels sprouts, avocado, or green beans, etc.)

  8. Have a cup of hot tea

  9. Watch the sunset (or sunrise)

  10. Write down three things you’re grateful for

  11. Write down three things you want to accomplish that day

  12. Make a Pinterest board of your dream home or dream vacation

  13. Write a letter to a friend or family member

  14. Draw something

  15. Take a walk

  16. Do some yoga

  17. Go to bed an hour earlier than usual

  18. Read a magazine

  19. Try meditating for five minutes

  20. Take a long shower or bath

  21. Silence your phone for an hour or two

  22. Listen to a Podcast
